The role of the pension and disability insurance
The membership in pension and disability insurance, which is a part of social insurance, is the realization of the constitutional right to social security, as provided by Article 50 of the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia. The State regulates compulsory health, pension, disability and other social insurances and supervises their implementation.
The pension and disability insurance in the Republic of Slovenia is compulsory and applies uniformly to all insured persons. It covers the employees in employment relationship with organizations and other employers, the self-employed persons pursuing an independent economic or professional activity, farmers and members of their agricultural households as well as some other persons pursuing activities which serve as the basis for compulsory insurance.
Based on contributions and principles of reciprocity and solidarity, a membership in compulsory pension and disability insurance provides entitlements in cases of old-age, disability, death, as well as other entitlements.
