Insurance and the payment of contributions by category of insured person
For every category of insured person, the law lays down the conditions under which a person who satisfies them joins compulsory pension and disability insurance on a compulsory or voluntary basis. For all these types of insurance, the law also lays down who is to register and pay contributions, and who provides the information that is kept in the central register of insured persons and is used to enable those persons to claim benefits under this insurance.
The following persons are insured on a compulsory basis in Slovenia:
- Workers in employment1
- Self-employed persons1
- Members of companies who are also partners in those companies1
- Farmers1
- Unemployed persons who receive cash benefits from the Employment Service of Slovenia
- Persons claiming parental care entitlements
- Family carers
- Foster parents
- Religious officials
- Soldiers undertaking voluntary military service
- Recipients of sickness benefits after termination of their employment
- Recipients of occupational rehabilitation benefits
- Persons in other legal relationships (students, persons working under civil-law contracts) 1
- Joining the compulsory pension and disability insurance scheme on a voluntary basis1
