About the insurance

The pension and disability insurance has had a long-standing tradition in Slovenian territory, since its beginnings go back to the end of the last century. The present territory of Slovenia used to be a part of other countries, hence there were no autonomous pension and disability insurance regulations there; Slovenia was subject to the regulations of the countries it was a part of.

The first autonomous regulation of pension and disability insurance was established in March 1992, with the introduction of the Pension and Invalidity Insurance Act. The Act was subject to major amendments in 1996 and 1998, only to be succeeded by the new regulation of pension and disability insurance at the end of 1999 with the Pension and Invalidity Insurance Act (ZPIZ-1), taking effect on 1 January 2000.

The pension reform, started already in 1996, was finally concluded with the new pension legislation (ZPIZ-2), which entered into force on 1 January 2013. It has introduced considerable changes to the original pension and disability insurance regulation.
